Anna Chancellor and Nicholas Farrell in South Downs and The Browning Version

Tuesday, 7th Feb 2012

The David Hare/Terence Rattigan Double Bill Will Appear at the West End Venue from April to July 2012

It has been announced that a double bill of shows will appear at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End from April, one being David Hare’s play “South Downs” and the other being Terence Rattigan’s well known “The Browning Version”. The announcement has emerged alongside a casting announcement as well, with both Anna Chancellor and Nicholas Farrell taking on lead roles, just as they did when the productions first appeared at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

“South Downs” has been commissioned specifically as a companion piece to Rattigan’s one-act play and this is why it has appeared alongside it at the Chichester venue. It now becomes one of many West End transfers for the theatre, following previous successes like “Yes, Prime Minister” and upcoming shows like “Singin’ in the Rain”, allowing it to continue to stand-up alongside the Menier Chocolate Factory as a location to keep a close eye on for upcoming West End hits.

Anna Chancellor has appeared in a range of shows over the years, both on the stage and the screen, and this means that audiences have seen her in everything from “The Last of the Duchess” at the Hampstead Theatre to “The Observer” at the National Theatre, with additional London theatre credits like “Never So Good” at the South Bank venue and “Boston Marriage” at the Donmar Warehouse. She also boasts a Laurence Olivier Award nomination and various screen roles like “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “The Hour” and “Suburban Shootout”.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Farrell has also appeared in a wealth of roles over the years and in addition to the role of Dewley and Crocker-Harris in “South Downs” and “The Browning Version” his credits include “Hamlet” and “The Merchant of Venice” for the Royal Shakespeare Company. For the screen he can be seen in the Margaret Thatcher movie “The Iron Lady”, as well as “Amazing Grace” and “Pearl Harbour”.

“South Downs” and “The Browning Version” appear as part of a Double Bill at the Harold Pinter Theatre from Tuesday 24th April 2012 (previews from Thursday 19th April 2012) to Sunday 22nd July 2012.
