Starring Alongside Kieran Bew and Polly Frame in Patrick Marber’s 1990s Play
The Young Vic is to be the home of a revival of Patrick Marber’s 1990s play “After Miss Julie”, his update of the 19th century tragedy “Miss Julie”. The announcement was made some time ago, though it has now been accompanied by some details of the upcoming cast, with Natalie Dormer set to lead the production alongside Kieran Bew and Polly Frame. The play is set to run from March to April 2012.
“After Miss Julie” takes the events of “Miss Julie” and transports them to Labour’s landslide election victory of 1945. Dormer, Bew and Frame will portray the show’s only characters - Miss Julie, and her servants John and Christine. Within the confines of the kitchen, the Labour victory in that year’s election provide a backdrop for a story in which Miss Julie’s life is changed when she goes in search of John within her mansion.
The original play was penned in 1888 by August Stringberg, with Marber’s version appearing more than a century later and appearing both on BBC2 and then, in the last decade, on the stage of the Donmar Warehouse.
Natalie Dormer has previously appeared both on the stage and screen so those that pick up theatre tickets will recognise her from film roles like “WE” (Madonna’s movie concerning Edward VIII’s abdication), “Casanova” and “Captain America: The First Avenger”, in addition to television roles such as “The Tudors” (as Anne Boleyn), “Rebus”, “Game of Thrones” and “Miss Marple: Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?” For the stage her credits include “Sweet Nothings” at the Young Vic in 2010.
Meanwhile, Kieran Bew has starred in the likes of “Spooks” and the 2004 movie “AVP: Alien vs. Predator”.
The production will appear in front of London theatre audiences prior to the upcoming run of “Wild Swans”, which is set to appear from April to May 2012, with “The Changeling” appearing until the end of February.
This leaves the venue empty for “After Miss Julie” to appear at the Young Vic Theatre from Wednesday 21st March 2012 (previews from Thursday 15th March 2012) to Saturday 14th April 2012.
