This is the third time I've been to see Phantom in Her Majesty's and it is as good, if not better than ever before. I was in the front row (row B) of the stalls and could see everything in perfect detail. The old victorian machinery used to put on the show gives it a real charm and the cast were just wondeful. Sofia Escobar has the most enchanting voice and Earl Carpenter plays an emotionally rich Phantom. I couldn't fault a single member of the cast.
The overture seems to have had a bit of a clean up, it sound much punchier and clearer. When the chaneleir was unveiled it made everyone in the audience jump and it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end.
The finale, as ever, was tear-jerking and a few of the audience members left with sniffly noses after the show as this is such an emotionally diven spectacle.
Others who have said the show looks dated and tired are not looking at the show from the right angle. It's MEANT to sound like it's from the 80s, that's what makes it unique. If they changed the sow in a drastic way it would instantly kill it.
One critisism I have is that the sound mix was not the best. Earl's voice is so soft in Music of the Night that his volume needs to be increased. However the sound mix seemed to improve as the show went on.
People always moan about the leg room in the theatre, but there is the same amount of room as there has always been. Tey cant replace all the seats! People should stop fussing and let the music captivate them.
Thankyou for a splended afternoon.
