Umoja - The Spirit Of Togetherness

The Peacock Theatre in London’s West End prepares to welcome this wonderful and memorable exploration and celebration of song and dance from South Africa early in 2012 with “Umoja”, which means “Togetherness” in Zulu, from creators Todd Twala and Thembi Nyandeni. The production allows the Peacock Theatre to continue to provide the West End with the best international song and dance acts as an outlet of Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

The production will allow those with theatre tickets the opportunity to delve into a world of tribal music, Sophiatown jazz, kwaito and gumboot dancing, among other forms, with a wealth of young South African performers, including singers, dancers and musicians taking the lead. It is likely to translate into a truly breathtaking spectacle.

It has been created by the team of Todd Twala and Thembi Nyandeni, the former a singer and choreographer who has worked on a wealth of shows around the world and is famous for her work with “Pulse of Africa” and “Sikhulu”. The latter has appeared in movies like the Agatha Christie film “Death in Safari. They previously teamed up on “Baobab”, which paved the way for their current hit “Umoja”.

“Umoja – The Spirit of Togetherness” is at the Peacock Theatre, the West End outlet of Sadler’s Wells, from Tuesday 31st January 2012 to Sunday 19th February 2012.
