All New People

“All New People” is the new play from television star Zach Braff, which is set to appear at the Duke of York’s Theatre from February to April 2012. The production will be directed by the man that brought it to the stage on the other side of the Atlantic – Peter DuBois – and replaces the jukebox musical “Backbeat” when it opens its doors.  The production will also feature Braff in the starring role, which means that those with theatre tickets will see a recognisable face on the stage as he follows in the footsteps of numerous other American television stars that have appeared in a London show.

In addition to the show’s London run, those in Glasgow and Manchester will also be able to witness “All New People” in 2012.

The plot focuses on Braff’s character Charlie, a man who has found himself at rock bottom and is turning 35 by hiding away at his friend’s luxury apartment on Long Beach Island. But his attempts of a quiet getaway are hindered and it soon becomes clear that much more is going to happen. During the course of the show we come face to face with numerous colourful characters, from a fireman to a memorable British estate agent.

Zach Braff is best known to audiences around the world for his starring role in the television series “Scrubs” in which he portrayed Dr John “JD” Dorian for almost a decade. He has also appeared in various movies, including his directing debut “Garden State in 2004, which means that audiences might also recognise him (or his voice) from “The Ex”, “The Last Kiss”, and the animated “Chicken Little”. His stage work includes “Twelfth Night” for Shakespeare in the Park on the other side of the Atlantic.

However he has also appeared in “Trust” in New York where he was previously directed by Peter DuBois, who returns to the position for “All New People”. It will be the second time that the director has worked in the United Kingdom following “Becky Shaw” at the Almeida Theatre.

“All New People” is set to appear in Glasgow and Manchester before it runs at the Duke of York’s Theatre from Wednesday 22nd February 2012 to Saturday 28th April 2012.
