Three Days In May

Heading to Trafalgar Studios 1 from October to March will see people picking up theatre tickets to witness Ben Brown’s “Three Days in May”, a show that will see take audiences back to a crucial part of history as Winston Churchill and his war cabinet face an important decision. Warren Clarke, best known to modern audiences for his role in the series “Dalziel and Pascoe”, stars as Churchill, with Jeremy Clyde portraying Lord Halifax and Robert Deneger as former Prime Minister (and then-Lord President of the Council) Neville Chamberlain. Alan Strachan takes on directing duties on the production.

Warren Clarke heads to the stage on the back of a successful career in the spotlight; one that has seen him work alongside some of the best known names in Hollywood and also appear in some of the UK’s most popular television shows. From working with Clint Eastwood in “Firefox” and Val Kilmer in “Top Secret!” to performing under the direction of Stanley Kubrick in “A Clockwork Orange” he has made an impression on the silver screen whilst appearing in shows like “Coronation Street” and “Dalziel and Pascoe”.

And in “Three Days in May” he portrays the best known Prime Minister in British history, Winston Churchill, during his early days in the position and at a crucial point in the war effort against the Nazis. During the eponymous three days we witness the war cabinet embark in an important debate behind the doors of Ten Downing Streets, with Churchill forced to convince them that they must continue their fight against fascism. With some advocating the idea of giving in to Hitler the road ahead is going to be difficult, but the decision will have huge implications either way and it could shape the face of the free world forever.

Jeremy Clyde portrays Lord Halifax in the production, following a career that has seen him portray a range of roles, including Sir Nicholas Henderson in another real life story that focuses on government decisions regarding war – “The Falklands Play”. His other credits include “Passion Flower Hotel” at the Prince of Wales Theatre in 1965 and television shows like “Ashes to Ashes”.

Trafalgar Studios 1 becomes the home of “Three Days in May” following the summer run of “Top Girls”, which finishes in October. The former runs at the West End venue from Wednesday 2nd November 2011 (previews from Monday 31st October 2011) to Saturday 3rd March 2012.
