Midnight Tango

The West End is full of plays, musicals and comedies and it is known around the world for its stand out versions of all of these. But these are not the only areas that the London theatre scene is capable of and come January a new show at the Aldwych Theatre will prove that it is also the home to some great celebrations of dance. It shows that it is not just the Peacock Theatre – where audiences can witness productions such as “Havana Rakatan” – that can offer dance in the West End and when “Midnight Tango” rolls around – with “Strictly Come Dancing” stars Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace – audiences will be flocking to the Aldwych Theatre.

Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace are two well known dancers with hosts of titles between them, whose careers have encompassed a number of championships and television appearances. To many they are best known for their numerous appearances in “Strictly Come Dancing”, which they have both appeared on since 2006. Though they have been split up during the show – to partner with non-professional dancers in the forms of celebrities – it is one of many occasions in which the pair have worked together.

And in “Midnight Tango” they offer up a unique show that demonstrates the power of the tango for all to see. But rather than dancing out of context the production offers up a story that transports audiences to downtown Buenos Aires, where the heat and the sensuality of the tango will rise to the surface. Simone and Cacace will take to the stage alongside a wealth of renowned, talented dancers – plus the band Tango Siempre – to offer up a dazzling spectacle that demonstrates danger and excitement at the heart of the dance. It is not a show that London theatre audiences will want to miss.

And directing the show is Karen Bruce, a regular part of the West End who has directed and choreographed a wide range of shows. Her credits include the West End versions of “Footloose”, “Saturday Night Fever” and “Fame”, whilst choreography credits include “Never Forget” at the Savoy Theatre and “Pacific Overtures” at the Donmar Warehouse to name but a few.

“Midnight Tango” makes its way to the Aldwych Theatre on Friday 20th January 2012 and remains until Saturday 31st March 2012.
