Crazy For You

In 2011, the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park welcomed “Crazy for You” with Timothy Sheader taking on the duties of director (in his capacity as the Artistic Director of the venue) and Gareth Valentine as musical director. The production had a lot going for it and proved to be a successful venture, but now it continues its journey in the capital as it transfers to the West End’s Novello Theatre, giving those with theatre tickets the opportunity to witness the same cast and the work of the same creative team in a new location.

“Crazy for You” has been held in high regards since it was first seen in 1992. It was an adaptation of the Gershwin’s 1930 musical “Girl Crazy” and great anticipation was held ahead of its Broadway premiere thanks to its billing as the New Gershwin Musical Comedy. But the project paid off as it went on to earn both a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award. So its appearance from July to September 2011 was welcomed and its run at the Novello from October 2011 to July 2012 (the initial booking period) is hotly anticipated.

The story is a classic story of love and following one’s dreams. “Crazy for You” introduces audiences to the character of Bobby Child as he relishes in his dreams and hopes of making it as a dancer on the stage. Along the way he also becomes embroiled in romance as a love story takes him on a memorable journey. And that’s not all; the show also features some classic songs, including “I’ve Got Rhythm”, “Nice Work if You Can Get It” and “Embraceable You”, among others.

Musical director Gareth Valentine brings his talents to the stage following the Open Air Theatre’s “Into the Woods” from previous years. His other credits encompass a range of West End shows, from “Wicked” and “Sinatra” to “Porgy and Bess” and “Cats”. His team-up with Timothy Sheader, Artistic Director of the Open Air Theatre, is likely to provide an unforgettable experience for those with theatre tickets.

Following “Betty Blue Eyes”, which is set to close at the Novello Theatre on Saturday 24th September 2011, “Crazy For You” runs from Saturday 8th October 2011 to Saturday 28th July 2012.
