A Flea In Her Ear
A Flea in Her Ear
Tom Hollander and Lisa Dillon lead the cast in a new staging of John Mortimer’s classic reinterpretation of Georges Feydeau’s “A Flea in Her Ear” in 2010. The show is set to appear at the Old Vic Theatre under the direction of Sir Richard Eyre, where audiences will undoubtedly settle down to witness a spectacular display of mistaken identity, comic mishap and classic farce.
It is likely to attract a lot of attention when it opens in December, particularly with the renowned talents of Sir Richard Eyre watching over proceedings. The acclaimed director has enjoyed quite a career, with recent credits including the David Harewood-starrer “Welcome to Thebes” at the National Theatre earlier in 2010. Since the late 1960s he has been a strong voice in British theatre and eventually became the director of the National Theatre from the late 1980s to late 1990s. His credits include the likes of “The Reporter” at the National Theatre, in addition to movies like “Iris” starring Judi Dench.
With “A Flea in Her Ear” he will be directing from John Mortimer’s classic 1966 revival, which was originally directed by Jacques Charon. The story has been around since 1907 when Georges Feydeau sat down to pen a play concerning suspected infidelity and more. We are introduced to Raymonde (Lisa Dillion), who suspects her husband Victor (Tom Hollander) of being unfaithful, based on particular clues she has noticed in his character.
So she teams up with her friend Lucienne to lure him into a trap and discover the truth, arranging a meeting between him and a fictional admirer. But Victor is not cheating on Raymonde and when he receives the invite is uninterested in attending, instead sending a friend of his he feels it was meant for. With various other characters making it onto the scene and Victor himself charging to the meeting for separate reasons, the result is a comic farce as the characters become entwined with confusion.
Lisa Dillon is a respected actress who has appeared onstage and onscreen with credits that include the BBC series “Cambridge Spies” and “Cranford”. London theatre audiences may recognise her from the likes of “Present Laughter” at the National Theatre and “When the Rain Stops Falling” at the Almeida Theatre.
A Flea in Her Ear makes its appearance at the Old Vic Theatre from Tuesday 14th December 2010 (previews from Saturday 4th December 2010) until Saturday 5th March 2011.
