SYNOPSIS

Aspects of Love

By the time audiences have finished watching the Menier Chocolate Factory’s revival of “Aspects of Love”, they will have realised the true extent to which love changes the world as a romantic story set in 1940s France takes course. The show was originally taken from David Garnett’s novella in 1989, when Andrew Lloyd Webber staged a production in the West End to great success. Now the Off-West End venue revives the classic under the direction of the famous Sir Trevor Nunn, no doubt hoping to repeat the success, of not only this original production, but also previous high-profile shows at the Menier Chocolate Factory, such as 2009/2008’s “La Cage Aux Folles”.
The two performers set to portray the lovers of Alex and Rose in the production are Michael Arden and Katherine Kingsley, who have both been seen on the stage and onscreen on separate sides of the Atlantic. Arden is an American actor whose credits include “Bones” for television and countless Broadway hits. Kingsley, meanwhile, earned a nomination for a Laurence Olivier Award in 2009 for “Piaf” at the Donmar Warehouse, with further credits like “High Society” and television’s “Hollyoaks”.

Their portrayals of Alex and Rose will see them take audiences back in time to the France of the 1940s, with the former a student travelling across the country and the latter a beautiful actress. When the pair fall in love their resulting relationship has a profound effect on their lives, but takes an unexpected turn with the sudden arrival of one of Rose’s relatives. As such, “Aspects of Love” expose the twists and turns of romance, with the song “Love Changes Everything” famously dealing with these circumstances and ensuring that the two lead characters have learnt a lot by the time the curtain closes.

Sir Trevor Nunn is a renowned theatre director whose work has been seen both on Broadway and the West End, whilst he is also responsible for various productions on television and in film. He has earned countless Laurence Olivier Award-nominations, whilst his staging of “The Merchant of Venice/Summerfolk” in 1995 saw him win. His credits include “Cats” in 1981, “Les Miserables” in 1985, “The Woman in White” in 2004 and “A Little Night Music” in 2009.

Aspects of Love makes its way to the Menier Chocolate Factory and runs from Thursday 15th July 2010 (previews from Wednesday 7th July 2010) until Sunday 26th September 2010.
