SYNOPSIS

All My Sons - Apollo Theatre

Arthur Miller’s Greek tragedy “All My Sons” returns to the stage for a new run at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End. This classic story of guilt, love, loyalty and the corruption that surrounds them all appears from May 2010 with two well known British actors of the stage and screen in leading roles.

David Suchet and Zoe Wanamaker lead the cast of the production, two acclaimed and respected performers who are both known for iconic roles and significant stage productions.

In bringing the show to the stage director Howard Davies, who won a Laurence Olivier Award for a previous production of the show at the National Theatre in 2000, casts Suchet as Joe Keller, the man at the centre of the story and the man whose actions define the lives of those around him. During the Second World War he causes upheaval as he is alleged to have supplied defective engines for use in fighter planes battling in the war effort. Suddenly, the deaths of many innocent pilots seem to be on his hands, including that of his own son who is feared to have died in action.

It means that Keller’s life is torn apart both inside his home and outside, with his wife Mrs Keller (Wanamaker) unable to come to terms with her son’s death and struggling to cope with the boy’s fiancé transferring her affections to one of his siblings. A place of confrontation, where the stranglehold of tension threatens to tear it apart, the Keller household becomes the scene of drama as a family secret is unearthed.

David Suchet will lend years of experience to the role of Joe Keller having made a name for himself in various stage shows over the years and winning over audiences across the country for his portrayal of Hercule Poirot for British television. His stage credits have included the likes of “Complicit” at the Old Vic in 2009, “Once In A Lifetime” at the Olivier National Theatre in 2005, “Man and Boy” at the Duchess Theatre in 2005 and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” at the Aldwych Theatre in 1997. In 2008 he famously received an International Emmy Award for his portrayal of Robert Maxwell in a BBC drama, with previous awards that have included a Royal Television Society Award in 2002 for “The Way We Live Now”. His other credits for the screen include “The Bank Job”, “Flushed Away”, “Henry VIII” and “Dracula”.

Meanwhile, Laurence Olivier Award winning Zoe Wanamaker is perhaps best known for her role as Mrs Harper in “My Family” as well as the award winning turn in “Electra” at the Donmar Warehouse in 1997.

“All My Sons” appears at the Apollo Theatre from Thursday 27th May 2010 (previews from Wednesday 19th May 2010) to Saturday 11th September 2010.
