SYNOPSIS

Dualia/La Leyanda  - London Coliseum

The London Coliseum will be given a Spanish twist in 2010 as the members of Spain’s national dance company Ballet Nacional de España showcase a double bill of “Dualia”, from Rojo and Rodriguez, and “La Leyenda” (The Legend) from José Antonio. These are two productions that make up the best loved works of the Spanish ballet group, a company that has managed to wow audiences for 3 decades, presenting shows that have been seen around the world in many famous cities.

The Ballet Nacional de España is a renowned company that has earned much respect and admiration from around the world, with critics and audiences agreeing that their work is amongst the best in dance. As well as showcasing new productions they also provide training for the rising stars of Spain, making them a guiding light for Spanish culture and the arts. Their shows have appeared at the New York Metropolitan and other well known stages, earning them recognition with the likes of a Critics’ Prize for Best Foreign Show, the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes and more.

The first of the two productions, “Dualia” is a well known work that showcases amazing feats of skill from the world of flamenco, having been choreographed by the field’s best known stars Rojo and Rodriguez, with a score from Jose Nieto. It is a production that showcases the world of lust and love in life, whilst pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved in the art of dance. Together, the two choreographers regularly showcase the world of flamenco to various countries, including here in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the second of the two shows, “La Layenda” was choreographed by one of the main players of the Ballet Nacional de España, Jose Antonio, who held the position of Artistic Director from 1986 to 1992 and has held it again since 2004. It is a tribute to the late Carmen Amaya, a famous flamenco performer who passed away in 1963. Her life is a tale of rags to riches and the production demonstrates her rise from the slums of Barcelona to her tenure as a renowned performer, regularly appearing on stages in the US during the 1930s and 1940s.

The Double Bill of “Dualia” and “La Leyenda” from the Ballet Nacional de España appears at the London Coliseum from Tuesday 27th April 2010 to Sunday 2nd May 2010.
