Arturo Brachetti – Change
The Garrick Theatre will be treated to an appearance by Italian magician and quick-change artist Arturo Brachetti this October in a brand new show entitled “Change”, which will be directed by The Right Size’s Sean Foley.
The show will bring the Italian star back to the London stage, where he once won a Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer for his 1983 appearance in “Y”. His other awards include accolades in France and Canada (for the show “The Man With A Thousand Faces”, which appeared at the Montreal “Just For Laughs” comedy festival) and the former title of the fastest quick-change artist in the world (according to the Guinness Book Of Records 2006 an 2007), which sees him change his costume in a matter of seconds. His other credits include “Square Rounds” at the National Theatre and television shows that include “A Night Of Magic”, which was filmed at Disneyland Paris, “The Best Of Magic” here in the United Kingdom and appearances in the US on “The Drew Carey Show”.
His success has brought him a long way from his upbringing. Born in Turin in 1957 he spent much of his time in early years spending time at a seminary, where a priest taught him the skill associated with magic. These are experiences that have allowed him to go on to appear on world stages, in countries that include his native Italy, as well as Germany, Canada, France and the UK.
His success is likely to be cemented on British soil with “Change”, which sees him take on the role of a grand artiste in a story penned by Sean Foley. This artiste is a well known figure during the golden age of a cabaret and his illuminating career will come to life onstage as Arturo mines his quick-change skills to appear as the likes of James Bond, Johnny Rotten and the Queen.
Director Sean Foley is best known as a comedian alongside Hamish McColl in The Right Size, meaning he has appeared in the likes of “Brass Eye”, “Happiness” and “People Like Us”. For theatre he has appeared in “Do You Come Here Often” at the Vaudeville Theatre and “The Play What I Wrote” at the Wyndhams Theatre.
“Arturo Brachetti – Change” starts at the Garrick Theatre from Monday 26th October 2009 (previews from Monday 19th October 2009) until Sunday 3rd January 2010.
