Dreamboats & Petticoats

The hit show returns to the westend after appearing at The Savoy Theatre during summer of 2009. With the music of the 1950s and 1960s coming alive once more to appear in front of a London audience. Taking its name from the hit 2007 album that features many of the songs that will be on show here, “Dreamboats & Petticoats” is an unmissable treat that lands at a world class venue, well known for putting on some great quality musicals.

It is billed as a rock’n’roll musical and appears from the pens of Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, whose work has been seen on screen in many well loved television sitcoms such as “Birds of a Feather”, “Goodnight Sweetheart”, “Shine On Harvey Moon” and “The New Statesman”. As such, expect a feel good production that will put a smile on your face as well as take your down memory lane with some well loved classics.

It is set in 1961, a time when the rebellious teen was becoming more and more widespread and the music was more than reflecting this. It is no wonder that parents were suddenly highly surprised at what they were hearing blasting out of their children’s speakers. In “Dreamboats & Petticoats” we are introduced to two young musicians in the form of Norman and Bobby, who are both regularly competing for the hearts of the female population, particularly their adoring fans. However, at the top of both of their lists is the irresistibly gorgeous Laura, who has the power to stop anyone in their tracks and take notice. However, she isn’t just eye candy – Laura knows a thing or two about the guitar herself and it is her talents that could propel them to rock stardom.

The artists whose work that will feature as part of the musical includes Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury, Roy Orbison and The Shadows with songs such as “To Know Him Is To Love Him”, “Shaking All Over”, “Three Steps To Heaven”, “Only Sixteen” and “Happy Birthday Sweet 16”.

“Dreamcoats & Petticoats” is at the Playhouse Theatre from 7th Jan 2010 to Saturday 29th May 2010.
