Adam Cooper's Shall We Dance

Adam Cooper’s Shall We Dance

West End sensation Adam Cooper dances his way back into the spotlight in 2009 as Adam Cooper’s Shall We Dance arrives at Sadler’s Well, London’s Dance House. Shall We Dance is a combination of Cooper’s exciting array of dancing skills along with a musical score comprised entirely of melodies by Richard Rodgers, the award-winning American composer, who has created several hit Broadway and London musicals.

Adam Cooper began his dancing career under the guidance of Matthew Bourne’s dancing company Adventures in Motion Pictures. Cooper was in safe hands as Bourne is an award-winning choreographer having won Tony Awards for his production Swan Lake, an Evening Standard Award for The Car Man and in 2005, the recipient of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Original Choreography for his work on Mary Poppins. Cooper played the role of the swan in Bourne’s Swan Lake and performed in the production across the world, winning over audience and critics alike. Cooper went on to perform in Bourne’s production of Cinderella before beginning work as a choreographer. Cooper played a role in the choreography of On Your Toes which appeared in both England and Japan, as well as assisting the director on Singin’ in the Rain which appeared at Sadler’s Well.

In 2005, Adam Cooper choreographed and starred as the lead character, Viscomte de Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Premiering in Japan, the show was performed during the summer season at Sadler’s Well. Cooper received excellent reviews from critics, with Ballet-Dance Magazine online commenting ‘Cooper has some very original ideas that auger well for future productions he might stage in his choreographic career’. Since this production, Cooper has appeared in London’s West End, performing in Guys and Dolls at The Piccadilly Theatre; a production starring Neil Morrissey and Patrick Swayze.

Adam Cooper’s Shall We Dance will bring together the combined creative talents of three West End regulars. Paul Pyant, lighting designer, and Paul Farnsworth, designer, will work alongside Richard Balcombe, the production’s musical director. Balcombe has been musical director for West End shows such as Phantom of the Opera, City of Angels, Carmen Jones, Once on this Island, Cats and Aspects of Love. He has also taken his talents to the Chichester Festival where he has been musical director on productions such as Out of this World, The Gondoliers and Divorce Me Darling.

Adam Cooper’s Shall We Dance appears at Sadler’s Well from the 23rd July 2009 until the 30th August 2009.
