It is time once again to welcome the talented team of performers of the Ballet Rakatan back to the Peacock Theatre, where they will once again deliver a high quality spectacle. Ever since their first appearance at the Peacock back in 2007 they have returned year after year to give audiences with theatre tickets the chance to delve into Cuban culture and a dance spectacle. Under the watch of renowned choreographer Nilda Guerra they have regularly managed to provide a host of acclaimed performances around the world since they formed in 2001, from prestigious venues in Cuba to other well known locations from Edinburgh to Zurich.

When they head to the stage with “Havana Rakatan” they present a show that is split into two sections, with the first half introducing us to the talented performers and then introducing us to the roots of Cuban culture. As such we go through Cuban history, from its origins in Spanish culture to the influx of African spiritual beliefs, eventually coalescing into the Cuban atmosphere we know today. In the second half of the show we go forwards in time somewhat so that we witness modern day Cuba, both in a country and in an urban setting, with various well known dances from the Mambo to the Rumba making an appearance.

There will never be a dull moment on the stage of the Peacock Theatre once “Havana Rakatan” begins and as a result London theatre audiences will remain captivated by the sights. After all, there is a good reason as to why the dance company has managed to make such an impression in so many countries and emerge as one of the best known and renowned dance companies in Cuba – their talent says it all. So this is not a show to miss when it arrives in London in September 2011.

The Peacock Theatre, which “Havana Rakatan” will be calling its home, has regularly welcomed some interesting productions. Every Christmas “The Snowman” makes its traditional appearance, with other previous shows including “Psy” by Les 7 doigts de la Main (The 7 Fingers) and “Cirkus Cirkor”. As such there is always a spectacle on which to feast the eyes.

“Havana Rakatan” returns to the stage of the Peacock Theatre with a run from Tuesday 13th September 2011 to Sunday 9th October 2011.
