Thriller Live

The Beatle’s Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band has sold over 32 million copies worldwide. Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon has sold over 40 million copies, as has Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard. However, the greatest selling album in the world eclipses all these figures; Michael Jackson’s Thriller is believed to have sold 108 million copies worldwide and is still continuing to sell in record shops today. Therefore, it is no surprise that Jackson’s work has been transformed to the stage into an all-singing and all-dancing spectacular. After several successful UK tours, Thriller Lives arrives in the West End and The Lyric Theatre in January 2009.

At the age of 11, Michael Jackson, along with other siblings, created The Jackson 5. The band, which also included Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon, was signed by Motown Records in 1968, after a brief spell with Steeltown Records. The band went on to become the first musical act in recorded history to have their first four major label singles reach the top of the American Music charts. Whilst The Jackson 5 established Michael Jackson as a star, his greatest moments in the spotlight were still to come.

In 1979, Michael Jackson released Off the Wall which included songs such as ‘Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough’ and ‘Rock with You’. The album went on to sell 15 million copies worldwide and was the first album to generate four American Top 10 hits. Thriller followed in 1982 and stayed at the top of the American album charts for 37 weeks; it remained in the top 10 for another 43 consecutive weeks. A record-breaking album, seven singles featured on the album became a Top 10 US hit. Jackson’s third album, Bad, didn’t match the heights of Thriller, but still became the first album to generate five number one singles including the title song and ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’. Three more solo albums including his second highest-grossing album, HIStory, confirmed Jackson’s place in musical history; he is regarded by many as one of the most famous men in the world.

Thriller Live features over 20 performers and a live band celebrating ‘The King of Pop’ and everything he has achieved. As well as including many of Jackson’s biggest hits, the company perform many Jackson 5 hits including ‘Blame it on the Boogie’. The show is directed and choreographed by Gary Lloyd who has recently choreographed a UK tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love.
