SYNOPSIS

Flashdance - The Musical

London finally gets in on the magic that is “Flashdance” as the hit musical adaptation of the 1983 movie reaches the West End. The show has already toured the country and proven to be a big draw for those wanting to witness a spectacular stage experience and now audiences flocking to the Shaftesbury Theatre can get in on the action from September.

The show had its world premiere at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2008 and since then has travelled to various corners of the United Kingdom before finishing in May 2009. It is likely to be a huge success in the capital and fans of the hit movie are almost certain to want to get a look in. Then there are the talents working behind the scenes; David Ian produces the show alongside Robert Leon as director, but the real draw takes the form of Arlene Philips acting as the show’s choreographer. It means that the sparkle evident in programmes like “Strictly Come Dancing” can be added to the London stage event of the year.

The story of “Flashdance” concerns that of Alex Owens, a young woman who lives a dual life. During the day she works hard in her job as a welder at a steel mill, where she embarks on a passionate affair with her boss Nick. However, come nightfall she heads out into the town to perform as an exotic dancer, a hobby she hopes will one day earn her a place at a prestigious dance school. It has always been Alex’s dream to be a professional ballet dancer and with this “Flashdance” shows itself to be a musical about following your heart, wherever it may take you.

To make this story even more spectacular, musical numbers amplify the compelling plot, with examples such as “Don’t Stop”, “Totally Different People”, “Manhunt”, “Gloria”, “Maniac” and the movie version’s Academy Award-winning song “Flashdance – What A Feeling”. These enormously popular songs are certain to guarantee that “Flashdance” will be a whirlwind success at the Shaftesbury Theatre and a production we will enjoy for some time to come.

Flashdance makes its anticipated appearance at the Shaftesbury Theatre from Thursday 7th October 2010 (previews from Monday 27th September 2010) to Saturday 26th February 2011.
