Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour 2009

Tom Chambers, Julian Carey, Jill Halfpenny, Gethin Jones, Kenny Logan and Cherie Lunghi will all once again be appearing in sparkly sequins and Lycra as they appear in the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour 2009. After arriving in Newcastle in January, the show transfers to Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham and Sheffield before arriving in the capital; the production will appear in London to play to the 02 Arena and the Wembley Arena. The show then appears in Glasgow before concluding in Birmingham.

Strictly Come Dancing was developed and created by the BBC in 2004. There has been six British series so far, with four Christmas Specials. Since its creation, the programme has been exported to 31 different countries under the title Dancing with the Stars. In late 2004, Australia’s Seven Network became the first to broadcast the programme and has since broadcasted eight series. One of the most popular formats is the American edition of the show which is currently in its seventh season; notable celebrities include the previous 100 metre Olympic Champion, Maurice Green and Mel B, known best as one of the five Spice Girls.

On the Strictly Come Dancing tour, celebrities will face their demons in the form of all four television judges. Bruno Tonioli judges on both the UK and US television formats and has also judged on the BBC reality show, DanceX, in which his dancing team won the competition. Tonioli’s team was up against a dancing troupe created by Arlene Phillips, another Strictly Come Dancing judge. Phillips has worked on some of the biggest selling musicals in the West End and Broadway theatres. She has since created, produced and choreographed a new British television serial for ITV titled Britannia High; the series musical numbers, dance routines and storylines appear to have been inspired by Disney’s phenomenally successful High School Musical trilogy. Len Goodman is Strictly’s head judge and his work outside of television includes the management of a ballroom and Latin dancing school in Kent. Goodman is also the head judge on the US television judging panel. The final judge is Craig Revel Horwood who is no stranger to the West End. His choreography talents can currently be seen in the West End show Flamenco Flamen’ka and he has recently choreographed and directed Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard.

Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour 2009 appears at various venues across the UK from the 16th January 2009 in Newcastle until the 22nd February 2009 in Birmingham.
