If you liked the film you'll love Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage.
Dirty Dancing - the StoryIt's 1963. The Houseman's take their annual vacation at Kellerman's - a mountain camp in New York's Catskill Mountains. But for youngest daughter, seventeen year-old 'Baby', this is more than just a vacation; it's the moment in her life when she discovers her first love - dance instructor Johnny.
Johnny is the classic bad boy with good looks. He teaches Baby to dance and introduces her to a new raunchy style of dancing that is a world away from what she's been used to with her parents' generation. The two of them fall in love, but after Johnny's regular dance partner falls pregnant and has an illegal abortion, Baby's father forbids Baby to have anything further to do with Johnny and his friends.
The two continue their love affair in secret, until all is revealed when Baby steps in to defend Johnny after he is falsely accused of stealing a wallet from a guest at the holiday camp. But even though Johnny is found innocent of the theft, he is fired from his position for having a relationship with a guest.
Realising that Baby risked the wrath of her parents by standing up for what is right, Johnny begins to accept that not all of Kellerman's upper-class guests look out just for themselves. Inspired, he returns to the Camp and plucks Baby from her parent's table with the classic line 'nobody puts Baby in the corner'. They dance and the Show ends with Baby overcoming her fears and allowing Johnny to lift her in the air, while her parents see their daughter crossing over from innocent girl to a young woman in love.
Dirty Dancing - the MusicThe music for the stage version of Dirty Dancing is taken straight out of the 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. All of the favourites are there and complement the stage performance in much the same way as they were used in the film. The songs for the stage performance include the Grammy Award-winning "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" sung by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, "Hungry Eyes", performed by Eric Carmen, and "She's Like the Wind", which was written in partnership between Stacy Widelitz and Patrick Swayze, and sung by Swayze himself.
